you need to put it in neutral to engage it before you press the 4x4 button or shift the shifter is the best way and most genital on everything way and to disengage it relieve the stress off the transfer case by backing up in 4low if you engaged 4low if not back up at least 10-20 in 4high you need to back up at least 10-20 feet no matter what before you press the 2wd button or shift it back into 2wd again you want to be in neutral
